About Shelly Gessler, LPC

Shelly Gessler (she, her, hers), LPC, believes people are greater than the sum of their parts, so her counseling reflects a holistic, mind-body approach. She encourages clients to explore their counseling goals both mentally and physically so they realize and embody new ways of being.

Shelly received a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from DePaul University. She is also a Certified Trauma-Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator and a registered yoga teacher. Shelly also served as a volunteer for Strength Builders, a program to help teens and children increase personal resiliency to better manage life’s challenges; DePaul Penedo Program, mentorship for Chicago at-risk girls; and AbbVie Wellness Program, mindfulness-meditation training to help employees reduce stress and increase self-compassion.

In therapy, Shelly creates a safe space to productively work with clients to reach their unique goals. She uses an eclectic approach, including empirical interventions (CBT, DBT, and solution-focused) and psychodynamic and mindfulness methods (self-compassion training, meditation, breathing techniques, and trauma-informed yoga) to help clients feel contentment and a sense of well-being as they navigate life’s challenges.
