Mario Raines, LSW, takes a client-centered approach, embracing the diversity and uniqueness in the human experience. He wants to make sure each client leaves each session in better condition then when they arrived.
In therapy, Mario helps children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD, Depression, anxiety, and:
Severe Mental Illness: This includes borderline personality disorder and Schizophrenia. Mario has a unique approach at coping and long-term therapy treatment. He is a practicing magician who has found magic tricks have been beneficial in slowing hallucinations and other triggers.
Intellectual and Developmental Disorders: Autism, Learning Disabilities, and more; Mario provides a therapeutic environment to learn coping mechanisms and to express emotions that may be more difficult. Mario wants to ensure his clients leave feeling more confident with their communication.
Anxiety and Depression in Adolescents: Anxiety and Depression can feel as if you have lost control. Mario offers therapy for adolescents who are suffering from feelings of worry and hopelessness. He uses different therapeutic techniques such as CBT, DBT, and talk therapy. Mario has found, through his experience, that magic can be used as an emotional reset button.
As a therapist who uses different techniques, Mario researched and utilizes magic in therapy when he finds it helpful. He distracts the anxious mind or sadness with slight of hand. Understanding how impactful his unique skill set can be, Mario also has a physical tick form of Tourette’s Syndrome that he is coping with.
Mario earned his MSW from Dominican University. In his free time, he is a gamer (board games, card games, and video games), can play an excellent game of chess, and is a musician.
