Kavita Adatia, LPC, believes positive change takes place when clients are provided a safe space to practice skills, experience the here and now, and process life’s challenges. She enjoys utilizing creative based interventions during her sessions and consistently looks for approaches that will benefit and meet clients where they are in their journey.
Kavita earned both an undergraduate degree and an MsEd in counseling from Northern Illinois University. She spent much of her career working in various educational settings and specializes in working with clients under age 18. Kavita is well-versed in trauma informed care, and has several years of experience working with adolescents involved in the justice system. She's also familiar with impact of gang involvement and drug addiction in families with chronic and generational trauma, and is skilled in helping academically gifted students and treating various behavioral issues.
In therapy, Kavita primarily works from a CBT and strength-based approach perspective. She also enjoys providing psycho-education and implementing creative interventions such as mindfulness, art, and other non-traditional methods, including games, play, crafts, and technology. Creating a comfortable setting for the client is the first step, so the resources used are completely centered on client interests. When needed, she also incorporates education to help client increase their awareness on their issues. Regardless of her approach, Kavita strives to create a strong client-counselor collaboration centered on client needs and goals.
