About Frederick Smith, PsyD

Dr. Frederick Smith, PsyD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who helps clients see the world through a different lens. His overall goal is to guide clients to improve their quality of life and relationships so that interactions become more meaningful.

Dr. Smith earned an undergraduate degree from Tougaloo College and graduate degrees from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He works with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with anxiety, intellectual/developmental disorders, learning disabilities, OCD, psychotic disorders, and more. He has worked in a number of different settings including community mental health centers, prisons, schools, college counseling centers, state hospitals, private psychiatric hospitals, and general medical centers providing acute and long-term psychotherapy to children and adults who were exhibiting severe psychopathology related to psychosis, suicidality, aggression, and personality disorders.

In therapy, Dr. Smith uses cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, play therapy, reality therapy, solution-focused therapy, psychoeducation, and schema-focused therapy. In addition, he employs the three core conditions of therapeutic change: empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. In all cases, he continuously monitors the therapeutic process to learn what is working and what is not working so he can better support clients.

Dr. Smith offers psychological and neuropsychological assessments for those age six years old and up. The testing encompasses mood disorders, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorders, specific learning disabilities, and more. In addition, he is trained to provide fitness/competency to stand trial evaluations and insanity evaluations, and he has testified as an expert witness in over 40 court hearings.

Dr. Smith is also licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Georgia and can see Georgia residents through Telehealth.
