David Gonzalez, LCPC, teaches clients to express and explore the context of complex emotions, and he's committed to helping adolescents and adults understand their feelings and find healthy ways to cope. He works with individuals, couples, and families struggling with Autism, intellectual disabilities, parenting, and:
Trauma: David can help you heal from past and current traumas through individual therapy. He understands change takes time, but there's possibility to overcome anything and move forward. David helps reconnect the mind and body to reduce triggers and begin living a better life.
Schizophrenia: David understands how mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting it is to cope with untreated schizophrenia. After identifying what triggers episodes, he can help develop effective strategies to manage stress and cope with upsetting situations. Whether the mental illness is mild or severe, he helps people of all ages better function.
Addiction Recovery: David provides treatment for every stage of addiction. From identifying the reasons behind the behavior to taking the next steps, David is able to help families understand and cope throughout the treatment process.
In therapy, David knows everyone is unique and responds differently to treatment. His approach is artistic and collaborative, and he uses Existential, Evidence Based (CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing), and Gestalt techniques to bring results. He also encourages poetry, music, dance, and art to communicate feelings and provide a healthy outlet for healing.
David earned his graduate degree from Roosevelt University. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his mini Goldendoodle, reading comic books, enjoying all Chicago sports teams, and video gaming.
