Theoretical Approach: My initial focus is to build rapport with each client. As a therapist, I foster a growth-promoting climate for clients to feel comfortable and secure to engage and resolve their issues. I believe we have the capacity to change our lives for the better through self-awareness. Once we become more aware and accepting of ourselves; we uncover our latent abilities and begin to empower ourselves to make the changes in our lives that we want to see. My client is the focus and being present and supportive in their process of discovery is pertinent to the therapeutic alliance and the outcome of therapy. Some therapeutic approaches that I utilize, but not limited to, are: Existential Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Therapy, Attachment-Based, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Family Systems, Gestalt Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focused, Play Therapy, Culturally Sensitive, and a Strength-Based Approach.
Educational Background: I earned my Master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Illinois Institute of Technology and my Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Saint Xavier University. During the internships for my undergraduate and graduate studies, I gained experience mentoring and tutoring elementary school-aged children; administering intelligence and aptitude tests to children ages 4-14; and performing individual and group counseling to individuals of various ages, backgrounds, and ethnicity. I have specialized knowledge and training in rehabilitation counseling, having helped individuals living with mental health issues obtain and maintain employment in the community, return to school, and increase their overall quality of life.
About Me: I love encouraging and supporting individuals to live their best life. I am an advocate for those voices that sometimes do not get heard. I enjoy spending time with family, watching movies, and visiting new places. Self-care, reading, and listening to music are some of my favorite things to do in my personal time.
