Shelby Phillips, LSW, CADC, wants clients to leave each session feeling heard, understood, and validated. She supports clients as they find areas in need of reflection and helps them reach their therapy goals in a safe, empathetic environment.
Shelby obtained an undergraduate degree from University of Illinois at Chicago and an MSW from Aurora University. She started her career providing substance abuse assessments and counseling and soon began individual, family, and group therapy for a vast range of diagnoses. She has extensive experience with autism, PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, eating disorders, and more. Shelby is also skilled at early intervention therapy for young children and their families.
In therapy, Shelby focuses first on building rapport. She approaches each client with the basic understanding that dysfunctional thoughts or behaviors can be alleviated by focusing on the core thought or belief that causes distress. When working with a couple or family, she works to understand the relationships to determine why the individual has placed themselves in their current role within that relationship or family system. In every situation, Shelby is emphatic to vulnerabilities shared and is flexible to adapt to the needs of each client. Her goal is for each client to reach their fullest potential, and she uses a comprehensive, humanistic approach for clients to become their personal best.
