Melissa Grupe, PhD, LCPC, strives to understand the perspective of the client to meet his or her goals. She takes a non-judgmental and empathetic approach while considering the complexities of one’s life, including such variables as cultural, political, historical, global, biological, psychological, and spiritual factors.
Melissa earned a BA from Alverno College, and an MA and PhD from Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has worked and volunteered in the mental health field since she was a teenager. Her work has included at-risk youth, chronic mental illness, mood disorders, impulse control difficulties, school anxiety, anxiety disorders, marital issues, communication issues, intellectual impairment, developmental impairment, adjustment to life stressors, self-esteem, motivation, trauma, and crisis intervention. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. Melissa has also traveled to Japan, Sierra Leone, and Peru to provide international consultation and services regarding education, forgiveness, trauma, community development, developmental impairment, and mental health.
Melissa integrates a wide variety of approaches into her person-centered therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, play therapy, art therapy, expressive therapy, and Existential Therapy techniques.
